Solar and lunar eclipse are said to have a significant astrological impact. Since eclipse may result in emotional changes in human beings it is recommended that they practice meditation and deep breathing. This may result in the day going by easily. Read more.

2022 EKADASHI DATES
Eka means “one” (1) and dasha means “ten” (10). Ekadashi is therefore a time for the devotee to transform his/her actions of the ten senses and the mind towards God. Ekadashi is a time to control the ten senses and the mind by not allowing lust, anger, etc. Read more.

2022 PANCHAK DATES
Panchak Nakshatra are specific to death. The Panchak Nakshatra are Shathabish, Dhanishta, Purvabhaadrapad, Uttarabhaadrapad and Rewathi. A Panchak Shanthi Pooja has to be performed on the day of the funeral and on the 12/13th day. Some believe that the time of cremation is used to determine whether to do this Panchak Shanthi, others believe it should be done either if death or of cremation occurred during Panchak. Read more.

The festival dates provided here have been approved by: Andhra Maha Sabha of South Africa, World Hindu Pundith Organisation, Shree Sanathan Dharma Sabha of South Africa, Deepika.org, The Gurumar Sangam of South Africa, and The Muruga Bhakthi Foundation of South Africa.
Note 1:
28 February 2022: Maha Shivaratri is to be observed when Chaturdashi is present during Nishit Kaal. This mahurat is important because scriptures say that Lord Shiva took avatar as Shiva Lingam on earth during Nishit Kala. On 28 February 2022, Chaturdashi (14th thithi) is present during Nishit Kaal. Chaturdashi starts at 23:42:23 (11:42:23pm). Nishit Kaal starts at 23:46:09 (11:46:09) and ends at 00:31:12 (12:31:12). This means that Chaturdashi is transiting sufficiently during Nishit Kaal.
1 March 2022: The Gurumar Sangam of South Africa have declared that the South Indian Panchagum is solar based and the position adopted is the thithi that prevails at Sunrise is applicable for the day in respect of the South Indian Community.
Note 2:
The bonfire (burning of Holika) must be done between 21H45 and midnight ONLY. Alternatively, the burning of Holika should be done on 18 March 2022.
Note 3:
The Vaishnava date for Krishna Ashtami is 19 August 2022.
