Press Release – Councillor Imraan Moosa, The AL Jamah Party

I hope this message finds you well. I have taken note of your statement that “Non-Muslims are waiting for guidance.” While I appreciate your right to freedom of expression, I believe it’s important to approach this topic from a different perspective that emphasizes humility and inclusiveness.

Many people, in fact, lack knowledge about other religions. It’s essential to recognize that hardcore religious fanaticism often overlooks the Oneness inherent in true spirituality or the wisdom found in the religions chosen by billions of people throughout the world.

Spirituality transcends language, traditions, culture, and even religion itself. It is a universal constant found within the hearts of devotees from all religious backgrounds. At its core, spirituality is founded on love. It acknowledges that love is God and God is love, and it champions the values of inclusivity, understanding, forgiveness, acceptance, and service to God through serving humanity. Spirituality is not a religion in itself; rather, it’s a form of worship that enhances the faith of Muslims, Hindus, Christians, Jews, and others alike. Love simply makes all of us better.

When individuals politicize their respective religions and claim superiority, they exhibit a lack of spiritual understanding and consciousness. This often leads to arrogance and misplaced views that create division — the very opposite of what humility and love advocate for. While this approach could gain targeted votes, in a time when South Africa is in desperate need of principled unity and a new path forward, such division is counterproductive.

As the President of the SA Hindu Maha Sabha and Secretary of The Interfaith Forum SA, I am committed to discussing values and transformational inclusivity strategies that will take our country forward, in these troubled times. This response is not intended to attack you personally dear Councillor Moosa. Instead, I hope to encourage a dialogue that fosters understanding and unity and Oneness. It is through humility and a shared appreciation of our spiritual oneness that we can truly move forward together, united in our diversity and grounded in love.

Sincerely,
Pundit ASHWIN TRIKAMJEE
