2023 DURBAN DIWALI FESTIVAL
The South African Hindu Maha Sabha flagship event – The Durban Diwali Festival will be celebrated on the 3rd, 4th and 5th November 2023 at the Suncoast Parking Site.
Diwali is a time of great joy, peace and blessings. To the Hindu community Diwali signifies the triumph of righteousness over evil, the return of Lord Ram, Mother Sita and Lakshman from 14 years of exile beautifully depicted in the Ramayan and going back to time immemorial.
Diwali represents a reaffirmation of divinity, hope, and goodwill, and signifies love, tolerance, generosity and goodness – inherent in all human beings. Divine enlightenment dispels the darkness of ignorance. During Diwali Hindus reflect on how we can illuminate the lives of those around us who are less fortunate, regardless of race or religion. An important tenet of Hinduism is Vasudhaiv Kutumbakam – the whole world is our family, which can be viewed as the Hindu equivalent of Ubuntu.
This year’s festival will feature a grand fireworks display, a variety of stalls, an indenture display, Yoga session, On-site temple, Mass hawan and entertainment galore.
The application form for stalls can be downloaded here. Once completed email to info@sahms.org.za or call 031-3091951 for queries.
